North Korea's Flag: A Symbol of Communism and Nationalism

Unveiled in 1948

The flag of North Korea was first unveiled on September 9, 1948, upon the founding of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Design and Symbolism

The flag features a red field, representing the revolutionary spirit of the Korean people and the socialist nature of the state. In the center of the field is a white disk, symbolizing purity and innocence. Inside the disk is a blue five-pointed star, representing the unity of the Korean people under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea.
